Welcome to my website, I am an established studio potter living, working and teaching in Nottingham, England. I make high quality hand thrown stoneware pottery that is high fired in reduction in my hand built kiln. I use ash glazes which I make in my studio and I add in naturally found materials like granite, basalt or river iron to make the glazes unique and to enhance the form and texture that I create. I am interested in natural surface textures and I draw my inspiration from the rich heritage of the Anglo-Japanese studio ceramic tradition, which can be traced back to the pioneering work of Shoji Hamada and Bernard Leach. Their dedication to craftsmanship and the fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetics has left an indelible mark on my creative journey. Additionally, I have the privilege of being born into a potting family, with my father being the renowned British studio potter, Mike Dodd (mikedoddpottery.com) and my Mother Celia Allen (celiaallen.co.uk} being a very accomplished maker. This familial connection has not only provided me with invaluable insights into the world of ceramics but has also instilled in me a deep appreciation for the art form. It is from this unique blend of heritage and personal passion that my work as a potter is born, and I am committed to carrying forward this legacy with my own distinctive artistic voice.

A medium sized and very distinctive textured vase that has a unique and unusual surface decoration technique that uses the application of a mix of dry powdered clay to create the textured surface during the making. Two glazes have been used, a granite based glaze and a nuka glaze around the top of the vase. High fired in reduction.

Large vase

Beautiful large stoneware vase with a very decorative and interesting brushed biscuit slip design which has created a heavily textured and attractive surface. Ash glazed and high fired in reduction.

This is very difficult to achieve, I have not been able to achieve the same result since, hence the price is reflective of it's rarity. There are only two of these in existence, the other is in a private collection which will be bequithed to the ceramic museum in Aberystwyth.
